DTAGS (Deep-Towed Acoustics and Geophysics System) IPV (Instrumented Pressure Vessel)

The DTAGS IPV shown below is made from 6061-T6 aluminum, and the surfaces are hard anodized and has an external pressure rating of 1000 psi (6.9 mPa), which is equivalent to about 2250 ft (686 m) of seawater. The pressure rating is limited by the O-Rings, which are rated at 1500 psi .

DTAGS Ready for Deployment

The Deep Towed Acoustics Geophysics System's Instrumented Pressure Vessel (DTAGS IPV) was designed and developed at the Naval Research Laboratory, Stennis Space Center, MS. DTAGS is shown below with the IPV circled in red.

DTAGS is a deep-water sonar system designed for high resolution imaging of the seafloor and sub-seafloor. Maximum seawater depths are in the range of 6,000 meters.
